Preguntas frecuentes
Corrosion and oxidation lead to the deterioration of goods, which can sometimes result in serious hygiene and health issues. Anti-corrosion desiccant salts are a cost-effective and highly efficient solution to help prevent these problems.
How do desiccant salts work?
You’ve probably heard that salt has strong moisture-absorbing properties — and it’s true. Traditionally, it has been used along with rice as a natural moisture control method. However, sodium chloride (table salt) has a limited drying capacity and can actually be quite aggressive toward metal products, potentially causing corrosion.
For this reason, it's not recommended to use it in direct contact with metal items over long periods. Instead, we should use modern technological packaging solutions like desiccant salts, which help keep goods in perfect condition during storage and transport:
Calcium Chloride Salts: One of the main advantages of calcium chloride is its high water absorption capacity in almost any condition, due to its high equilibrium humidity. It captures excess moisture in the environment and helps prevent mold, dirt, bad odors, and bacteria caused by humidity.
Calcium chloride desiccant bags are among the most cost-effective solutions for their high absorbency. However, if a bag breaks, it’s important to avoid contact with eyes and not to breathe near the substance.
Silica Gel Desiccant Bags: These are currently one of the most widely used solutions for protecting metal products due to their exceptional absorbent power — many consider them the best product on the market.
Most are made of polyethylene paper or non-woven fabric, and thanks to their high porosity, they are ideal for protecting high-end products, food, pharmaceuticals, and electronics.
They are non-toxic and non-polluting, ensuring the safety of both customers and workers. Experts estimate their absorbent effect lasts between 2.5 weeks and 3 months.
Clay Desiccant Bags: Looking for a natural option? Clay desiccant bags are 100% non-corrosive and offer high moisture absorption. Clay is a natural rock material made of hydrated aluminum and contains no chemical products.
Depending on your company’s needs, you can choose from different sizes of desiccant bags.
At Coplasem, we offer 140g desiccant salt bags, ideal for transportation, storage, machinery protection, cardboard or plastic boxes, pallet use, etc.
We also supply 2kg desiccant bags (known as container dry), which prevent dripping caused by moisture inside the container — all available in stock with immediate shipping.
Corrosion is an electrochemical reaction based on the reduction of oxygen, water, or air. The process occurs when most of the atoms in a given space or material oxidize (by losing electrons), leading to the gradual deterioration of the surface.
There are several types of corrosion, and the likelihood of their occurrence depends on the environmental conditions of the company or warehouse:
-
Galvanic corrosion: Common in electronic equipment. Moisture gets trapped, and oxidation accelerates due to the combination of electrical current and seawater — a frequent issue on ship decks, yachts, and submarines.
-
Electrolytic corrosion: Although similar to galvanic corrosion, this type is caused by an external electrical source, such as boat batteries.
-
High-temperature corrosion: Frequently found in the metallurgy sector, especially in chemical industries or iron foundries. Metals oxidize when exposed to high temperatures and reactive substances like sulfur or oxygen.
In industrial environments with high humidity, corrosion in storage areas can lead to significant losses if no anti-corrosion packaging is used. Companies involved in the export or import of metal parts often face this issue, as do warehouses storing metallic products near coastal areas, where oxidation is more frequent.
The key to VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) anti-corrosion packaging lies in its ability to prevent moisture or salt from reaching the surface of metal goods stored in closed environments.
VCI material acts as a transparent protective layer on a polyethylene film surface. In this way, the packaging insulates and protects the goods without needing oils or additional chemicals. VCI packaging works on its own to provide complete protection against corrosion on metal surfaces.
Key benefits of use:
-
Easy application
-
Long-lasting and highly effective
-
Adapts to different sizes of metal parts
-
Safe for workers’ health (non-toxic products)
-
Environmentally friendly (recyclable and sustainable)
-
Reduces labor costs
-
Heat resistant (up to approx. 55°C on average)
How it works:
-
The inhibitor (also known as the active anti-corrosion agent) is embedded in the plastic packaging.
-
The substance begins to evaporate and spreads around the metal material.
-
A protective layer of VCI molecules forms, preventing corrosion reactions on the product's surface.
It’s important to note that VCI packaging does not require oils or other chemical treatments — making it a very sustainable option. In fact, sustainability is increasingly becoming a core value for companies across all industries.
Need to protect your metal parts? This is the solution:
VCI anti-corrosion kraft paper: One of the main reasons to use VCI kraft paper is that it helps to protect your workers’ health. There’s no need for cleaning products, oils, or chemical liquids. This product requires no oil-based additives, meaning there’s no need to degrease tools after storage or transport.
Corrosion and oxidation issues can lead to the deterioration of goods, often causing serious hygiene and safety concberns. Anti-corrosion desiccant salts are a cost-effective and highly efficient solution to help solve this problem.
How do desiccant salts work?
You’ve probably heard that salt has strong moisture-absorbing properties — and it’s true. Traditionally, salt (along with rice) has been used as a natural moisture absorber. However, sodium chloride (common table salt) has limited drying capacity and can actually be aggressive to metals, even corroding them over time. It is not recommended for prolonged contact with metal goods.
That’s why it’s best to rely on modern packaging solutions, like industrial-grade desiccant salts, to keep your goods in optimal condition during storage and shipping.
Types of desiccant salts:
-
Calcium chloride salts: One of the most effective solutions, thanks to their high moisture absorption in nearly all conditions. They help prevent mold, unpleasant odors, and bacteria. These bags are very economical and effective. Important: if a bag is damaged, avoid contact with eyes and do not breathe in the powder directly.
-
Silica gel sachets: One of the most widely used moisture protection options, especially for metallic goods. With high porosity, they are ideal for premium products, electronics, food, and pharmaceuticals. Non-toxic and eco-friendly, they guarantee the safety of your staff and customers. Absorption effectiveness can last from 2.5 weeks to up to 3 months.
-
Desiccant clay: Looking for a natural option? Clay desiccant sachets are 100% non-corrosive and offer good moisture absorption. Made from natural hydrated aluminum silicate, they’re free from chemicals.
At Coplasem, we offer:
-
140g desiccant bags: ideal for general use in transport, storage, protecting machinery, cardboard, plastic boxes, or pallets.
-
2kg desiccant bags (Container Dry): specifically designed for sea containers, preventing moisture-related dripping over cargo.

Aluminum covers are another of the most commonly used alternatives for protecting metal materials in the industrial sector over the long term. Their use is very frequent for large pieces of metal machinery, although it is a material that can adapt to any size.
Aluminum covers: do you need to preserve your goods for a long period of time?
Due to the irregularities generated in the atmosphere (temperature changes, acids, gases, odors, humidity, precipitation...), we once again emphasize the importance of protecting metal elements. Thanks to aluminum covers, we can protect our products against corrosion and provide regular, stable, and consistent conditions for our goods. In fact, due to the adaptable function of the covers, we can store objects of very diverse sizes since it is a material that can fit any volume.
At the same time, we recommend securing their closure using thermal sealing pliers (product available in our online catalog). They will be the ideal complement to your aluminum covers.
Thermal sealing pliers:
With thermal sealing pliers, we can seal aluminum covers, polyethylene bags, or polypropylene bags. They use high temperatures to seal through heat.
Their most notable advantages are their low economic cost, ease of use, lightweight, and efficiency.
