Everything you need to know about World Recycling Day

More and more people and companies are joining recycling as a way to preserve the environment. In addition, there are many curiosities and advantages that we find about the World Recycling Day. We tell them to you below!

How did World Recycling Day come about?

There are several theories about how this important day was born, one of them and the most accepted is the one that places the origin of this celebration in Texas in 1994 specifically with the aim of encouraging citizens to spread the motto of the "3R-s": Reduce, reuse and recycle.

Years later, in 2005, UNESCO decided to proclaim World Recycling Day with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of reusing and recycling in order to improve and care for the environment.

How to take care of the environment in the industrial sector?

Every day more and more companies are joining together to form a more responsible world where they take as a priority to reduce waste and pollution, aware of the serious problem we are facing due to climate change.

The industry is a direct problem in the environment since there are still many companies that are not aware of the irreversible damage caused by some of their actions.

To improve these actions, it is essential to investigate the following aspects;

  • Reduce energy and water consumption
  • Improve the management of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Optimize product packaging
  • Take the environment into consideration and make it an important part of the company.
  • Manufacture products with recycled material as is the case of our wide range of products where we are aware of the importance of the environment with the manufacture of products with recycled material.

Curiosity: It is estimated that currently more than 3 million tons of hazardous waste are produced annually, a worrying figure.

The impacts of industry on the environment

The impacts of industry on the environment are felt in both air, water and energy. As a curiosity, in mid-2015, about 80% of GHG emissions also known as Greenhouse Gases arose due to industrial activities.

Regarding the pollution found in rivers and seas, the industry sector should focus on reducing water consumption as a priority. This problem can be solved by recycling their wastewater and in this way we would be able to prevent water scarcity and the worrying discharge of pollutants.

Finally, we know that in recent years the industrial sector has increased significantly accompanied by an increase in energy consumption.

Why is it necessary to celebrate World Recycling Day?

According to several experts, recycling is the key to a more sustainable and pollution-free world. It is estimated that the pollution of seas and rivers could become one of the main causes of death by 2050.

Another curious fact is that every square mile of ocean has approximately 46,000 plastics with the capacity to decompose in the aquatic environment which creates an existential threat to marine species, birds and plants.

These data show why World Recycling Day is important and why it should be mentioned from all sectors of society. Every year more and more countries join the activities and campaigns of the 17th of May whose main objective is to provide information and raise awareness about recycling.

How to celebrate World Recycling Day

Companies like Ecoembes have organized for this May 17 a series of activities aimed at families, both adults and children. In these activities we will find games where we can learn the importance of recycling and its value. Another of the protagonists in this celebration will be the bicycle, promoting its use in order to achieve a healthier and healthier way of life and of course more careful with the environment.

Our future challenges

We still have a long way to go even though we have made some progress. Recycled items have become a sustainable alternative for many businesses. Coplasem knows this and that is why we highlight our achievement in implementing a wide range of products made from recycled materials.
